The start up procedure for the dash panel does not allow the 2 to be displayed. Attempt to clear the code. If fault code 44 comes right back the Transmission ECU may have been configured for a transmission that requires an Inertia Brake.
Sometimes these come back, but usually not. This has happened to me in at least three different trucks, and all were Kenworth's with the automated manual transmission.
